Summary Box: J&J phasing out trace chemicals

THE ISSUE: An international coalition of activists has urged Johnson & Johnson for 2 1/2 years to remove traces of two potentially cancer-causing chemicals from "No More Tears" baby shampoo and other products.

J&J RESPONSE: The company says it's continuing with changes to remove the chemicals from baby products globally, and most should be done in two years. It's not announcing plans to do that for Aveeno or other adult cosmetic products.

CONSUMER REACTION: The groups say it's a good step but J&J is moving too slowly, as it's already removed the chemicals from products in other countries.
