B&N to buy some of Borders' intellectual property

Barnes & Noble has picked up some of Borders intellectual property along with other bidders, according to the liquidation company handling the sale.

Hilco Trading said late Thursday that multiple bidders agreed to buy $15.8 million of bookseller Borders' intellectual property, including a global portfolio of trademarks; the Borders, Waldenbooks and Brentano's trade names; Internet domain names and the Borders.com e-commerce website.

Bidders included Borders' larger rival Barnes & Noble and Berjaya Books, but Hilco would not say which specific assets were acquired by which bidder.

That will be released when the auction is approved by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of the Southern District of New York. A hearing is set for Tuesday.

Borders Group Inc. filed for bankruptcy protection in February and decided to liquidate in July.
