METALS FALL: Gold and silver prices fell Monday as investors moved money back into stocks.
MARKET RALLY: Gold and silver often move in the opposite direction as the stock market. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 33 points, or 2.8 percent, to 1,210.
OIL RISES: Benchmark crude rose $1.90 to end at $87.27 per barrel after the government said consumers spent more in July, easing concerns about another recession. It was the latest in a series of reports that indicated the economy improved last month.
