THE RECALL: Ford Motor Co. is recalling 1.1 million pickup trucks, including certain F-150, F-250 and Lincoln Blackwood models from the 1997 through 2004 model years.
THE PROBLEM: Metal straps holding the tanks to the trucks can rust and break, causing the tanks to fall to the ground. They can rupture and cause fires. Eight fires have been reported with one person injured.
THE SOLUTION: Ford dealers will replace the straps with rust-resistant new ones starting in September. Trucks brought into dealers before that will get a cable to hold the tanks up until the parts arrive.
