Summary Box: Bristol-Myers profit dips, sales jump

PROFIT DIP: Drugmaker Bristol-Myers Squibb's second-quarter profit fell almost 3 percent to $902 million, on higher costs for production, marketing, administration and taxes.

SALES SURGE: Sales jumped 14 percent to $5.43 billion, with roughly a third of that from blockbuster blood thinner Plavix. Three drugs saw sales climb more than 25 percent.

FUTURE OUTLOOK: While Plavix gets generic competition next May, the company raised its 2011 earnings-per-share forecast by 8 to 10 cents, to $2.08 to $2.18 per share.
