Clorox Corp., up $6.12 at $74.55

Activist investor Carl Icahn is offering to take the consumer products company private in a $10.2 billion deal.

Petrohawk Energy Corp., up $14.68 at $38.17

BHP Billiton Ltd. said it will buy the oil company for $12.1 billion, which would give it more access to U.S. shale gas assets.

Citigroup Inc., down 64 cents at $38.38

The New York-based bank reported its sixth straight quarter of profit as losses from failed loans declined.


Google Inc., up $68.68 at $597.62

Under its new CEO Larry Page, the Internet search leader posted second-quarter earnings that were far better than expected.

News Corp., up 21 cents at $15.64

Vical Inc., up 31 cents at $4.61

The drug developer said that it signed a licensing deal with Astellas Pharma to develop a drug for stem-cell transplant patients.
