NAME: Barbara Corcoran
CAREER: Started The Corcoran Group in 1973 with a $1,000 loan from her then boyfriend. After turning the real estate brokerage into an industry powerhouse, Corcoran sold the company for $66 million in 2001.
Corcoran stayed on as a consultant before leaving the firm in 2005. Today, The Corcoran Group generates $18 billion in sales annually.
