Summary Box: Viacom sues Cablevision over iPad app

CHANNEL FIGHT: Viacom Inc., the owner of MTV, Comedy Central and other channels, is suing cable TV distributor Cablevision Systems Corp. for making its channels available on the iPad without permission.

ALMOST EVERYWHERE: Cablevision says its system is secure and limited to paying subscribers in their own homes. Viacom says the system could sap its advertising revenue because viewing over the iPad isn't tracked by the Nielsen ratings agency.

INSTANT REPLAY: The dispute is similar to one between Viacom and Time Warner Cable Inc. over its iPad app, but both sides have agreed to a temporary halt to legal proceedings as they try to reach a deal.
