More Americans applied for unemployment benefits last week, adding to evidence that the job market is weakening.
Below are the states with the biggest changes in applications. The state data is for the week ending June 11.
States with the largest increases:
Pennsylvania: Up 6,019, due to more layoffs in the service and transportation industries.
California: Up 3,884, due to more layoffs in services and manufacturing.
Texas: Up 3,333, due to more layoffs in manufacturing and service industries including retail establishments.
Georgia: Up 3,235, due to layoffs in the health care and social assistance industries as well layoffs in manufacturing, retail, service and construction industries.
Ohio: Up 2,984 due to more layoffs in the automobile and transportation industries.
No states reported declines in benefit applications greater than 1,000.
