THE PERFORMANCE: Carnival Corp. reported second-quarter net income of 26 cents per share on revenue of $3.62 billion. This surpassed analysts' expectations for 23 cents per share on revenue of $3.51 billion.
FUEL HEADACHE: Carnival said Tuesday that fuel prices climbed 35 percent from last year, costing it about 19 cents per share in the quarter.
LOOKING AHEAD: The Miami cruise operator lowered its 2011 earnings forecast to $2.40 to $2.50 per share. Its previous outlook was $2.55 to $2.65 per share. Analysts previously expected $2.54 per share for the year.
