Quiksilver, DryShips, Tesla Motors are big movers

Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily Friday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:


Newell Rubbermaid Inc., down $2 at $14.97

The maker of storage bins and Sharpie pens cut its profit and sales forecasts for the year because of weak consumer spending trends.

Quiksilver Inc., up 66 cents at $5.04

The clothing company posted quarterly results that topped Wall Street expectations. An analyst said U.S. revenue growth is accelerating.

Blyth Inc., down $6.47 at $38.21

The seller of candles and weight-loss products cut its profit forecast for the year, citing rising costs and less consumer spending.

The New York Times Co., up 49 cents at $8.06

The newspaper company named Jill Abramson as executive editor, the first woman to hold the Times' top editorial job.

American Tower Corp., down $3.17 at $51.21

The wireless tower operator received a subpoena from the SEC requesting records since 2007 related to its tax accounting.


Tesla Motors Inc., up $1.37 at $30.13

The electric car maker is selling 5.3 million shares to the public, raising money to develop its Model X crossover vehicle.

Orexigen Therapeutics Inc., down $1.06 at $2.12

The drugmaker put on hold further work to secure U.S. approval for its obesity drug candidate Contrave, citing FDA demands.

DryShips Inc., up 32 cents at $4.15 The listing of Ocean Rig, most of which DryShips owns, will help boost shares, said a Goldman analyst as he upgraded the company.
