Oil climbed to near $99 per barrel Thursday in volatile trading as a weaker dollar offset concerns about a slowdown in world demand.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange:
_Benchmark crude added 76 cents to settle at $98.97 per barrel.
_Heating oil gained 1.54 cents to settle at $2.9137 per gallon.
_Gasoline futures lost 5.89 cents to settle at $3.039 per gallon.
_Natural gas climbed 1.5 cents to settle at $4.256 per 1,000 cubic feet.
On the ICE Futures exchange:
_Brent crude added 41 cents to settle at $112.98 per barrel.
