Tumbling demand for oil, gas and other commodities led to a broad stock sell-off Wednesday that pulled the Dow Jones industrial average down 130 points. Stocks fell broadly, with energy and materials companies suffering the worst declines.
The Dow Jones industrial average lost 130.33 points, or 1 percent, to close at 12,630.03.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 15.08, or 1.1 percent, to 1,342.08.
The Nasdaq composite lost 26.83, or 0.9 percent, to 2,845.06.
For the week:
The Dow is down 8.71 points, or 0.1 percent.
The S&P is up 1.88, or 0.1 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 17.50, or 0.6 percent.
For the year to date:
The Dow is up 1,052.52, or 9.1 percent.
The S&P is up 84.44, or 6.7 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 192.19, or 7.2 percent.
