Tenet Healthcare Corp., up 11 cents at $6.63

Community Health Systems ended its effort to buy its competitor after the hospital operator rejected its $4 billion-plus offer.

Dean Foods Co., up $1.26 at $12.24

The country's largest milk producer raised its earnings forecast for the year, saying it will cut costs and likely raise prices.

H&R Block Inc., down 29 cents at $15.64 The tax preparer's shares sank for a second day on fears that mortgage bond investors may force it to buy back billions in bad home loans.


Microsoft Corp., down 16 cents at $25.67

The software giant is buying popular Internet telephone service Skype for $8.5 billion, the biggest deal in its 36-year history.

JA Solar Holdings Co., up 38 cents at $6.48

The Chinese solar energy company's quarterly profit rose 78 percent, topping expectations, as customers bought more solar cells.

CKX Inc., up $1.01 at $5.46

The owner of proprietary rights to "American Idol" and Elvis Presley's name and image is being sold for about $511 million.

MannKind Corp., down 54 cents at $3.86

The biopharmaceutical faces a shaky financial and regulatory future, said a Baird analyst with a $2 price target on its stock.

Fossil Inc., up $11.97 at $105.97

The watch seller's quarterly earnings surged 55 percent on widespread sales growth and raised its forecast for the year.
