THE RESULTS: Health insurer Cigna Corp. said its first-quarter net income jumped 52 percent to $429 million, or $1.57 per share, from $283 million, or $1.02 per share. Revenue climbed 4 percent to $5.41 billion. Adjusted income from operations totaled $1.37 per share.
THE EXPECTATIONS: Analyst surveyed by FactSet expected earnings of $1.09 per share on $5.49 billion in revenue.
THE NEW FORECAST: The Philadelphia company now expects full-year adjusted earnings of $4.65 to $5 per share, up from a previous range of $4.30 to $4.70. Analysts expect earnings of $4.73 per share.
