US storms delaying UPS shipments in some areas

A spokesman for UPS says a spate of bad storms across the southern United States has caused delays in some shipments as flights are being kept on the ground for safety reasons.

UPS spokesman Mike Mangeot said Wednesday that the company is using several contingency plans, including shifting package processing volume around, to "get things back on track" as soon as the weather permits deliveries to be made safely.

United Parcel Service Inc. is based in Atlanta and has an international air hub in Louisville.

Mangeot declined to say how many packages and flights have been delayed or rerouted because of this month's bad weather, which has spawned tornadoes, caused flooding and dropped torrential rain from Texas to the Carolinas for more than a week.
