NEW HIGHS: Stocks jumped to their highest levels in nearly three years Tuesday thanks to signs that earnings are rising for U.S. companies and consumers are feeling more confident about the economy.
STRONG EARNINGS: Delta Air Lines Inc., Cummins Inc., United Parcel Service and Ford Motor Co. all rose more than 1 percent following better than expected earnings.
THE INDEXES: The Dow rose 115 points to close at 12,595.37. The S&P 500 added 11.99 points to 1,347.24. The Nasdaq composite rose 21.66 points to 2,847.54.
