SILVER TARNISH: Silver's rally skidded to a halt as investors took profits ahead of the Federal Reserve's much-anticipated statement on the economy due out Wednesday. Silver fell 4.5 percent, a day after pushing close to $50 an ounce.
MIXED BAG: Corn rose while wheat and soybeans settled lower after a government report detailed the progress of spring planting.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Federal Reserve is expected to signal this week that it will allow a $600 billion bond-buying program to end in June as planned. A strong rally in commodities prices started in August when the first hint of the program surfaced.
