An Ohio lawsuit says Kentucky-based health club chain Urban Active Fitness violates consumer protection law and uses unfair and deceptive business practices.
Court records show the lawsuit was filed in Cleveland on behalf of Bedford resident Phillip Robins. Attorney James DeRoche said in a news release Thursday the health club chain is accused of reneging on contractual promises that memberships can be canceled and continuing to charge fees for services customers can't use.
The suit was filed last week. It names Lexington, Ky.-based Global Fitness Holdings LLC, which operates under the Urban Active banner.
DeRoche says the suit seeks restitution for members harmed by the practices.
A Global Fitness spokeswoman has no response.
The Better Business Bureau's central Ohio branch recently gave the chain an F rating.
