Summary Box: Copper, palladium fall on Japan fears

JAPAN-ECONOMY: Copper and palladium fell after Japan said declines in production and consumer spending will limit growth as it rebuilds after the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crisis.

PRECIOUS METALS: Gold and silver rose in part because of lingering questions about European financial problems and uprisings in the oil-rich region of the Middle East and North Africa. The two metals are considered relatively stable assets.

ENERGY BOUNCE: Oil and other energy products rose after the government said crude supplies increased last week but that gasoline stockpiles fell more than five times what analysts had expected.
