COTTON BACKLASH?: Cotton prices fell 3.4 percent on concerns that persistently high prices and short supplies may force mills to cut back on purchases. The price has risen about 36 percent this year after nearly doubling in 2010.
GRAINS SLIP: Wheat and corn prices slipped ahead of a much anticipated government report that should provide more details about what types of crops farmers will plant this year. Soybeans also settled lower.
OIL-LIBYA: Oil settled down $1.42 at $103.98 a barrel after Libyan rebels recaptured some key oil ports and promised to resume exports.
