Guess, FedEx, Boeing, Cree are big movers

Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:


Guess Inc., down $6.16 at $37.71

The clothing maker issued a first-quarter forecast that fell short of Wall Street's expectations. Business in North America is weak.

FedEx Corp., up $2.61 at $87.89

The world's second-largest package delivery company said strong earnings should continue in the current quarter.

General Maritime Corp., down 69 cents at $1.81

The shipping company warned that fourth-quarter results would be weaker than Wall Street had expected.

Allergan Inc., up $1.23 at $70.13

Debt ratings for the medical device maker were raised by Fitch Ratings after the company had higher revenue in 2010.

Boeing Co., up 61 cents at $68.30

The earthquake and tsunami in Japan, where the plane maker gets some of its parts, has not slowed production, the company said.


Cree Inc., up $2.33 at $49.35

The company, which makes light emitting diode (LED) products, was upgraded by a Merriman Capital analyst to "Buy" from "Neutral."

Akamai Technologies Inc., up $1.51 at $36.47

Stifel Nicolaus upgraded the company, which provides Web streaming services, because its lower share price is attractive.

Diodes Inc., up $2.56 at $31.59

Collins Stewart said the chip maker could be seeing higher demand since it does not manufacture in Japan. Its rivals do.
