Smithfield Foods, H&R Block, NetApp are big movers

Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:


Smithfield Foods Inc., down 37 cents at $22.38

Increasing demand for pork and strong exports lifted the meat maker's profit in the third quarter, typically the weakest for hog production.

H&R Block Inc., up 65 cents at $15.84

The tax preparer posted a quarterly loss, but said it was preparing more tax returns and posted strong growth in online filing.

Mens Wearhouse Inc., up $1.85 at $28.04

The men's suit and tuxedo retailer narrowed its quarterly loss and offered a 2011 forecast that topped Wall Street expectations.


Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc., up $18.07 at $61.71

The single-cup coffee company will sell Starbucks Corp.'s coffee and tea products to its Keurig brewer users starting this fall.

Peet's Coffee & Tea Inc., down $5.52 at $42.53

An analyst had suggested that Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. could team up with Peet's, but it announced a deal with Starbucks.

Cumulus Media Inc., down 40 cents at $4.70

The country's No. 2 radio station owner is buying Citadel Broadcasting Corp. in a $1.7 billion deal as the radio advertising market improves.

NetApp Inc., down $3.13 at $48.41

The company, which sells PC memory storage networks for businesses, will pay $480 million for the external memory division of LSI Corp.

Human Genome Sciences Inc., up $3.35 at $29.03

The Food and Drug Administration approved marketing of the company's lupus drug Benlysta, which is expected add billions in revenue.
