Govt and Norwegian Cruise Line reach agreement

Norwegian Cruise Line has agreed to pay more than $140,000 and improve services for disabled travelers on its cruises.

The Justice Department said it filed a consent degree Monday in federal court in Miami under which the cruise line has agreed to pay $100,000 to nine passengers with disabilities and another $40,000 in civil fines.

The agreement settles complaints that the company didn't provide adequate services to five deaf or hard-of-hearing passengers and four passengers who used wheelchairs during cruises of the Hawaiian islands.

The company has agreed to provide better access for wheelchair-bound passengers and to add services for the deaf or hard-of-hearing.
