The Minnesota man freed this summer after more than 2 1/2 years in prison for a fatal crash now wants to join a lawsuit against Toyota.
Attorneys for Koua Fong Lee say Friday they are filing a request to join an existing federal lawsuit filed by victims of the 2006 crash, which killed three people. A hearing on Lee's request is set for next month.
Lee was convicted after the crash and sentenced to eight years in prison, but his case received a new look after Toyota acknowledged sudden acceleration trouble in some models. Lee's 1996 Camry was not part of the company's recall.
After four days of hearings, a judge ruled additional evidence probably would have led to a different verdict for Lee. Prosecutors said they wouldn't retry Lee, and he was freed.
A Toyota spokesman had no comment Friday.
