BANK STOCKS JUMP: A better-than-expected earnings report from Citigroup pushed bank stocks higher. Citigroup said fewer of its customers defaulted on loans.
HOMEBUILDER CONFIDENCE UP: The National Association of Home Builders reported that its housing market index, which measures builder confidence in the sales of new, single-family homes, rose by three points in October. It was the first time the measure had risen since June.
BUSY WEEK: 113 of the 500 companies that make up the Standard and Poor's 500 Index will report earnings this week.
