The following economic reports will be issued in Washington (all times EST):

MONDAY: Columbus Day. Bond markets closed.

TUESDAY: Federal Reserve releases minutes from September interest rate meeting.

WEDNESDAY: Treasury releases federal budget for fiscal year 2010, 2 p.m.

THURSDAY: Labor Department releases weekly jobless claims, 8:30 a.m.; Labor Department releases the Producer Price Index for September, 8:30 a.m.; Commerce Department releases international trade for August, 8:30 a.m.; Freddie Mac, the mortgage company, releases weekly mortgage rates.

FRIDAY: Commerce Department releases retail sales for September, 8:30 a.m.; Labor Department releases Consumer Price Index for September, 8:30 a.m.; Commerce Department releases business inventories for August, 10 a.m.

SATURDAY: No events of note.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton travels to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo and Brussels, through Oct. 14.

Paris _ French unions plan strikes, some open-ended, in transport and all public services to protest a bill raising the retirement age from 60 to 62.
