The Ohio Department of Insurance says that on average Ohioans paid slightly more for homeowners insurance in 2007 than in 2006.

The department said Wednesday that Ohioans paid an average homeowners premium of $548 in 2007 compared to $542 in 2006.

The figures were based on a report by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, which also found Ohio had the sixth-lowest average premium in the country.

The average premium nationally was much higher at $816 in 2007, up from $801 in 2006.
