The East Entrance to Yellowstone National Park is now open after crews used a howitzer in recent days to trigger avalanches on Sylvan Pass.

The East Entrance opened Tuesday morning. All park entrances are now open.

Commercially guided snowmobiles and snowcoaches travel over Sylvan Pass when weather and avalanche conditions permit.

Yellowstone is limiting snowmobile traffic to 318 machines a day for this winter season and the next season.

The state of Wyoming and Park County are challenging the restriction on snowmobile traffic in federal court. They claim the restriction hurts tourism.
