A $150 million boost for Maine's biomass industry is being announced in Bangor.

Federal officials on Monday will announce the release of funding for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Biomass Crop Assistance Program to Maine.

The Farm Service Agency director in Maine, Donovan Todd III, says grants are going to biomass suppliers in the state to strengthen its forest products industry and help wean the country from foreign fuel supplies and move toward energy independence, a priority of President Obama's.

Todd said Maine has the nation's second-highest number of biomass facilities approved, behind California.
