Republicans who control the Indiana Senate say they will announce their own ethics legislation soon.
House Democrats plan to take up their own bill on Wednesday to tighten lobbying and ethics rules. The bill by Democratic House Speaker Patrick Bauer of South Bend will be considered by the House Rules Committee.
The full Legislature convenes on Jan. 5.
Bauer's proposal would require legislators to wait a year after leaving office before becoming a Statehouse lobbyist. It also would require lobbyists to report gifts of more than $50 given to legislators and candidates. The current reporting threshold is $100.
