Newsday has named a new editor-in-chief.

The Long Island newspaper announced that Debby Krenek will succeed John Mancini, who resigned Friday after five years.

Krenek is the former editor of the New York Daily News. She joined Newsday in 2001 and was promoted to managing editor in 2004. Krenek was also named executive vice president of digital media; her previous title was senior vice president. Krenek was responsible for the development and launch of newsday.com's remodeled Web site earlier this year.

The announcement follows other leadership changes at the newspaper since it was acquired by Cablevision Systems Corp. last year. The newspaper named Terry Jimenez as publisher in September.

Newsday is the 11th-largest newspaper in the U.S.; its average daily circulation was 357,124 as of October.
