More than 26,000 still without power in W.Va.

More than 26,000 customers are still without electricity in West Virginia after high winds roared across the state.

As of 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Appalachian Power, a unit of American Electric Power, reported 22,450 outages including. The utility says power may not be restored to some customers until the weekend.

Allegheny Energy reported 3,882 outages scattered across its service area.

Two workers with Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative were injured Wednesday when the ground gave way beneath their truck. Vivian Michael with the cooperative says the three-quarter-ton pickup went over an embankment.

One worker was treated and released. The other was being evaluated Thursday at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
