Massachusetts officials have fined a Colorado beef supplier $700 for providing steaks to Ruby Tuesday restaurants that allegedly were smaller than their advertised size.
The state's Division of Standards announced Thursday that steaks provided by Colorado Premium Foods of Greeley, Colo., were underweight at a sampling of restaurants in Swansea, Taunton, Worcester, Springfield and Attleboro.
The investigation was sparked by a customer who complained about receiving a small steak.
Ruby Tuesday menus include size-specific items such as seven- and nine-ounce sirloins, and 12-ounce rib-eyes.
A Colorado Premium spokeswoman refused any comment. Ruby Tuesday did not immediately respond.
The fine is the maximum allowed.
