Sanofi-Aventis in research pact with CalTech

French drugmaker Sanofi-Aventis said Wednesday it is entering a research collaboration with the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, Calif., focusing both on therapeutic and diagnostic products.

Terms of the partnership were not disclosed.

Sanofi-Aventis said it will provide financial support for CalTech facilities for up to five years. It will support the Kavli Nanosciences Institute, the Molecular Observatory, and the Biological Imaging Center, and provide awards to scientists to support research projects.

In morning trading, U.S.-listed shares of Sanofi-Aventis slipped 11 cents to $38.62.
