Mont. won't publish phone directory to save money

Gov. Brian Schweitzer says Montana will not print a state telephone phone directory this year, saving taxpayers about $20,000.

Rather than print 11,500 copies of the state directory, employees and the public will be asked to use the new online directory and keep their 2009 directory for reference.

Last month, Schweitzer announced the elimination of four economic development jobs in the Commerce Department to save nearly $380,000 over the next two years. In addition, Schweitzer noted the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation is using video conference, saving an estimated $119,000 annually in travel costs.
