A subsidiary of Peabody Energy Corp. spent more than $1 million during the third quarter to lobby Congress on issues related to the coal industry and energy policy, according to a recent disclosure report.

Peabody Investments Corp. of St. Louis also lobbied on the economic stimulus package and climate change, among other issues in the July-September period.

Among those registered to lobby on the company's behalf was Christopher Leahy, a former policy coordinator for the House Energy and Commerce Committee, according to the report filed Oct. 20 with the House clerk's office.
