Stephen Adler, who served as BusinessWeek's top editor for more than four years before Bloomberg LP took over the magazine, is joining the news and information company Thomson Reuters Corp.
The company said it has named Adler as senior vice president and editorial director of its Professional division, which provides information for legal, accounting, health care and science professionals. Adler will report to the division's CEO, Jim Smith.
Thomson Reuters said Adler will also be a part of a leadership team headed by Reuters News editor-in-chief David Schlesinger. The news service is in a separate segment from the Professional division.
The company provided few specifics about the new job, but said Adler's duties will "involve designing and editing innovative news and other original, deep content for customers" of the Professional division.
Adler told BusinessWeek staff in October that he would step down from his job as editor-in-chief Dec. 1, when Bloomberg said it would take over from McGraw-Hill Cos. The deal closed this week, with Josh Tyrangiel, a former Time magazine editor, taking over as the top editor.
