Northern Indiana Public Service Co. says it is reinstating a heating assistance program in line with a state order requiring it to pay more of the program's funding.
NiSource Inc.-owned NIPSCO announced Monday it was renewing its Winter Warmth program. It says the program has provided more than $25 million in aid to some 70,000 NIPCSO customers in 25 counties since 2004.
Vectren and Citizens Gas already said they would renew their natural gas discounts, which the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission says it will allow through October 2012. The enabling order requires participating utilities to pay at least 25 percent of the funding.
NIPSCO says its average residential customers will contribute about 63 cents a month toward the assistance program.
