The CEO of Continental partner ExpressJet Airlines will jump to American Airlines as a senior vice president beginning Jan. 1.

James Ream will oversee maintenance and engineering at American, where he held a series of finance jobs from 1987 to 1995. He will replace Carmine Romano, who is retiring after 41 years at the unit of Fort Worth, Texas-based AMR Corp.

ExpressJet was spun off from Continental Airlines Inc. and currently operates regional flights under the Continental Express banner. The Houston-based company, a unit of ExpressJet Holdings Inc., named board member T. Patrick Kelly as interim CEO.

ExpressJet shares closed earlier down 4 cents at $3.65.
