Marathon Oil said Monday that J. Douglas Sparkman will retire Jan. 1 as senior vice president of transportation and logistics of downstream subsidiary Marathon Petroleum, and will be succeeded by Mary Ellen Peters.
Peters is currently senior vice president of marketing. She will be replaced by Thomas Kelley, who is currently director of crude supply and logistics.
Sparkman was appointed to his current position in February 2007. He also has served as manager of the Detroit and Catlettsburg, Ky., refineries.
Peters is responsible for all aspects of Marathon's brand, wholesale, specialty chemicals and asphalt marketing, including a network of approximately 4,600 Marathon-branded outlets in 17 states.
In his current job, Kelley is responsible for Marathon's domestic and international crude oil supply and trading activities that support Marathon's seven U.S. refineries.
