A group of Coal River Valley residents is speaking out about a Massey Energy Co. mining operation near Whitesville.

Five residents from the region plan to air their concerns at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Charleston on Friday.

They say the Massey operation is blasting too close to a large coal slurry impoundment on Coal River Mountain.

Delbert Gunnoe of Rock Creek says he's worried the impoundment is in danger of being damaged by the blasting.

The mountaintop removal mine site on Coal River Mountain has been the subject of intense dispute between Richmond, Va.-based Massey and environmentalists.

Environmentalists want the site to be used for a wind turbine farm.
