More than 50 Steel of West Virginia Inc. workers will be out of work by the end of November.

President Tim Duke said the layoffs of 53 workers will leave the company with about 300 employees.

Duke attributed the layoffs to a weak economy and a slowdown of construction and highway projects during the winter.

He said laid-off workers will be recalled when business picks up.
