Bill Fisher, son of Gap Inc. founders Doris and Don Fisher, will join the retailer's board to fill the seat left vacant when his father died in September.
The younger Fisher's appointment is effective immediately. He previously worked at the company for 15 years.
Bill Fisher joins his brother Bob, who has served on the board since 1990. Their mother Doris is an honorary lifetime director.
Gap, based in San Francisco, owns its namesake brand as well as Banana Republic, Old Navy, Piperlime and Athleta.
Its shares closed at $22.31, down 18 cents from a day earlier.
