MATTHEWS: What is this, the enemy of my enemy is my friend? ... I don't mean conservatives, I mean the right wing, who are nationalists. "Ethnically conscious," let's put it that way. They like the idea that he thinks Russian is an ethnic identity. Nationalism doesn't mean loving to a country, it means loyalty to a particular birth, a background you come from ethnically.
