Newly-elected Bill de Blasio, the first Democrat mayor in New York City in 20 years, wants to fund city-wide pre-k education by raising taxes on New Yorkers who earn more than $500,000 a year.
So how’s de Blasio’s proposal going over? Not even New York’s liberal senator Chuck Schumer supports it. Schumer, a leader of the Democrats’ push to raise federal income taxes on the rich, said Sunday he won’t back de Blasio’s crusade to slap higher taxes on wealthy New Yorkers.
