Republican, Mark Obenshain, is sure to contest today’s State Board of Elections (SBE) decision making Democrat, Mark Herring, Virginia’s new Attorney General-Elect, reports The Washington Post. Herring’s 165 certified vote lead over Obenshain officially makes this year’s contest the closest statewide election in the history of the Commonwealth. Despite today’s unanimous certification, SBE Chairman, Charles E. Judd, questioned the “integrity” of the final vote tally, making a full recount all but inevitable. Out of two million votes cast, Herring carried the day with 1,103,777 votes to Obenshain’s 1,103,612.
