A new internal report has discovered lax internal oversight led to nearly $800,000 in spending on "swag" items by the United States Marshals Services. According to the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General, the USMS spent $793,118 on "promotional items" like silk scarves and challenge coins during fiscal 2005 through 2010. The IG determined the expenditures were "excessive" and contrary to the policies put forward by the Department of Justice, which oversees the marshals.
