The White House said early Wednesday that President Obama would skip stops in Malaysia and the Philippines when he travels to Asia next week because of the partial shutdown of the federal government. Obama phoned the president of the Philippines and the prime minister of Malaysia to say he would be unable to visit those countries, the White House said. For now, he still plans to travel to Indonesia and Brunei, where he is slated to attend two major international summits.
