That’s it, folks. It’s over. The first debate has concluded and it’s quite clear that both men hate each other.

Biden told the president to ‘shut up’ at one point. Pretty much, both candidates angled to solidify their bases of support. I doubt any minds were changed. Trump hit Biden over his waffled support of law enforcement, his avoidance to answer the question about ending the filibuster and packing the court, and the Green New Deal. He aptly noted that the radical Left will dominate a Biden presidency.

Trump was very prepared for this debate, but one thing that some might note is the pervasive interruptions. Trump did interrupt Biden a lot, maybe too much, especially when there could have been opportunities for Biden to have a word salad moment.

Should Trump have dialed it back? In normal times, yes, but moderator Chris Wallace peddled some straight up lies and asked a horrendous line of questioning regarding climate change. It was Candy Crowley 2.0.

The next debate is between the VP candidates on Oct. 7.

See you then.

The Trump campaign statement on tonight's debate.

“President Trump just turned in the greatest debate performance in presidential history, displaying a command of the facts and control of the conversation. Joe Biden was revealed as too weak to be president and spent most of the evening on his heels, unable to explain his 47 years of failure as a Washington politician, and even his friends in the liberal media will be unable to spin this as anything other than a miserable failure.

"Biden is too weak to stand up to the radical left, too weak to stand up to China, too weak to stand up to anti-police leftists, too weak to lead on the economy, and too weak to defeat Covid. Americans saw a strong president on top of his game against an inadequate challenger, who cannot be allowed to become president.”

- Bill Stepien, Trump 2020 campaign manager

And as a fun closing note, CWRU, the university this is being held at, put up safe spaces for students who felt triggered by this event...or perhaps Republicans stepping foot on their campus. The horror!

Biden's campaign website calls the Green New Deal a "crucial framework." But at tonight's debate he said he doesn't support it.

The problem with mail-in balloting is that not every state had tested methods to make sure people only get a ballot once or that people who died are no longer on voter registrations.
